About the designer
My name is Anna Raimondo and for as long as I can remember, I have had an eye for detail and all things beautiful. After graduating with Honours in Jewellery Design and Gemmology from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, I was fortunate to receive the prestigious scholarship to complete a Master of Design in Milan, Italy, at the Richemont Group’s Creative Academy. It was at this academy that I gained invaluable skills on the creative process, accessory design, marketing and the world of luxury.
After finishing my studies at the Creative Academy, I then completed an intense three-month internship as a designer for the world-renowned fashion brand Chloe, working in their leather department in Milan. Thereafter, I spent the next two years working and traveling in and around the UK and Australia.
In 2010 I returned home to Cape Town and launched SMITH while interning for Elle Decoration Magazine.
About the label
I draw my inspiration from my travels and the different cultures and environments that I have encountered along the way; whether it’s a piece of wallpaper from a 16th century villa or from the feeling invoked by a walk through the African bush.
There are two distinctive aesthetics that appeal to me: Organic and Elaborate. The challenge to fuse organic materials and sensations with intricate designs and techniques is what really fascinates me. I am continuously in the search of simple, elegant, timeless designs with a little bit of a kick! This translates into bold, feminine, lightweight sterling silver, brass and copper jewellery that is crafted 100% by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are the same. We also have a men’s range that takes a quirky look at the Victorian gentleman and his style, thus creating ‘historically new’ pieces.
