Sithabe is a 100% black women-owned business registered in 2006 focusing mainly on beaded multifunctional décor accessories.
Our designs are inspired by the strong desire to preserve the traditional art of beading. We do this by crafting beautiful beaded artefacts featuring authentic African designs for house and home. Our products are handmade by rural women from their homes as a way of generating household income. We use the theme of Nguni traditional dress to celebrate the creative skills and dignity of these women as demonstrated in their craft.
Among these products is the Sithabe’s flagship line, the multipurpose ‘Circle of Unending Love’ (Thando Circle), inspired by the beaded Ndebele neck and waist rings. Sithabe products are bold, interestingly innovative and of high quality. They include mirrors, picture frames, bowls, candle holders, wall and table ornaments. These products are custom-made and unique, and they have been featured in several exhibitions at home and abroad, including Decorex, where the Sithabe mirror won the Gold Award for Best Product in 2011 and was nominated for Iconic Products in 2012.
Sithabe is featured in the CCDI Handmade Collection long-term display at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Sithabe has exhibited in Cape Town, Johannesburg, New York and Frankfurt.
